Bike Share Feasibility Study

Case Studies > Bike Share Feasibility Study

In 2017, South Lanarkshire Council commissioned us to deliver research to help determine whether there was scope for one or more bike share schemes to operate in the Rutherglen area and/or East Kilbride.

Through our work, we identified a variety of factors that are thought to influence the potential for a public bike share scheme to succeed. We used these to create heat-maps depicting potential demand for bike share services.

The heat-maps were supplemented with interviews with relevant stakeholders, who were able to offer local insight and industry knowledge. The findings of this study suggested it may be feasible to extend Glasgow’s existing bike-share scheme into Rutherglen, but that the case for a public bike share scheme in East Kilbride was less clear-cut.
